SMCC All Saints Run Half Marathon, Odessa, TX - 03/11/17

Marla wanted to do a Half as a "fitness check" prior to Boston, so we picked a flat one on spring break. This one was in Odessa at the UTPB campus. I chose not to taper for it - in fact, I ran a 3 mile warm up and a 3 mile cool down afterwards - the only thing I did out of the ordinary is that I didn't run my normal Thursday tempo run and instead ran this one as a long tempo. Had I tapered, I expect I could have run it a bit faster, but it was still a significant PR at the distance, running a 1:25:36. I finished first, with Marla coming in second overall. Temperatures were fine, but it was a bit windy, which slowed me a bit each loop around the campus.

Gear Check:

Shoes:  I ran in one of my blue Altra Instinct 2s. Love this shoe, wish I could buy every available pair (or that Altra had never changed its style).

Shorts:  I ran in Boston 2017 3” split shorts from Adidas.

Shirt:  I wore my old "open country" singlet from InknBurn.

Hydration: I don't recall taking water at aid stations, just powering through them. I don't find it matters in a half.

Socks:  Injinji medium weight no-show toe socks and CWX compression sleeves on my calves.

Fuel: it was a half

Hat:  Marathon Maniacs classic hat

Glasses: My red iridium Oakley Flak Jackets

Watch: Garmin 920 - no problems
