PROVIDING SHELTER |
---|
This term means actively creating or maintaining vegetation or artificial structures that provide shelter from the weather, nesting and breeding sites or "escape cover" from enemies. |

NEST BOXES, BAT BOXES |
---|
One of my objectives is to attrack blue birds. Nest boxes are placed in areas that may possibly draw in blue birds to breed. |
These boxes are designed for blue birds or smaller birds. |
I have five of these boxes placed on the property. |
No blue birds have used any of these boxes yet. |
The only birds that have used these boxes so for are wrens. |
I also have hung two small bird (chickadee, titmouse) nest boxes. |
This was used by a wren in 2008. |
Screech owl box. Has not been used. I think I need to place it higher in the tree. |
Another screech owl sized box. Only used by a canyon wren. |
Bat box place on the east side of the house. It has been used only few times in the spring. |
Another bat box |
BRUSH PILES |
---|
We have also placed several brush piles throughout the more open areas of the property. |
These are excellent shelter for ground nesting and ground feeding birds and small mammals. |
